The open back ATH-ADX5000 are Audio Technica's newest reference headphone, coming complete with a rather luxurious carry case - a very nice touch! They're designed for long term comfort, weighing only 270 grams and are individually laser etched with their own serial number after being hand assembled in Tokyo.

The diaphragms of the oversize 58mm drive units are coated with Tungsten for greater rigidity and greatly improved transient response, producing a frequency response of 5Hz-50,000Hz.  Sensitivity is high at 100dB,  but with an impedance of 420ohms, care needs to be taken to match them with a suitable headphone amplifier. We recommend the Moon Neo headphone amplifiers, which we reviewed them with.

A magnesium frame provides a stiff, but extremely lightweight base frame for the headphones, onto which the baffle, which houses the driver, the diaphragm, and the magnet, as seen below, are directly fixed.
